Chad PerryAugusta Prep senior Chad Perry was recently named a semifinalist for the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Perry is among 16,000 students nationwide to achieve the semifinalist status out of 1.6 million juniors who entered an initial screening of the program by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Semifinalists are the highest scoring entrants in each state and represent less than 1 percent of each state's high school seniors. Perry becomes Augusta Prep's ninth National Merit Scholarship semifinalist in the past six years.

Perry now has the opportunity to continue in the competition for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered in the spring, according to a news release from the program.

"To become a Finalist, the Semifinalist and his or her high school must submit a detailed scholarship application, in which they provide information about the Semifinalist’s academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received," the press release states. "A Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT® scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test."

National Merit Scholarship Finalists will be announced in February. Winners will be selected from this group of Finalists in the spring of 2019.

Augusta Prep wishes to congratulate Perry and all of this year’s commended scholars on quite an accomplishment!
