On Thursday, Jan. 3, Augusta Prep dedicated its Lower School Library Reading Nook to Frances Redmond. She retired in 2016 after working 23 years as the school's Lower School librarian.

A packed library was filled with Redmond's family and friends, faculty, staff and students for the ceremony in honor of Mrs. Redmond, who died in June 2018.

"Frances loved Augusta Prep, and I don't mean the brick and the mortar. I mean the people inside these walls - the students, the faculty, the staff, the administrators," said Dave Redmond, Frances' husband of 45 years.

"She never missed an opportunity in sharing with others that she didn't have a job. She had a dream, a dream that became true, which was to become a librarian. She served faithfully. She gave it everything she had every day."
Augusta Prep Head of School Peter Huestis said a lot of time and conversation was spent trying to figure out the best way to honor Mrs. Redmond.
"Every time, the conversation came back to this space," Mr. Huestis said, pointing to the reading nook. "After carpool every morning, Frances would be in here holding court, and I mean that in the kindest of ways. This was her domain. She had everything organized. And this was her court."
