Five men and women have been selected as 2018 inductees into the Steve Brooks Boyd Hall of Fame, Augusta Prep announced Thursday afternoon. The official induction ceremony will take place Friday, Sept. 14, during homecoming festivities.

The members of the Class of 2018 are: Jovan Cardoso, Michael Downing, Amanda Murphy, Tom Norton and Steve Smith. Also, the 2010 varsity girls cross country team will be inducted.

Cardoso, class of 2012, competed in basketball and track and field. She earned all-region and all-state honors all four years in track and field. She holds the school record for shot put and discus.

Downing (c/o 2014) was the school’s basketball MVP in 2013-14, when he helped lead the squad to a state runner-up finish. He was named all-state that season. Downing also starred in football and baseball, holding the school record for career home runs and triples.

Murphy (c/o 2013) participated in basketball, cross country and soccer. She won individual state cross country championships in 2010 and 2011. She also finished as state runner-up in 2008, 2009 and 2012. Murphy helped the cross country team win three state titles, and she was named all-state five times and team MVP four times. In basketball, Murphy scored more than 1,000 points during her career and earned all-state honors twice. In soccer, she was named all-state in 2013 and helped lead the Lady Cavaliers to the state semifinals.

Norton has coached the Augusta Prep girls soccer team the past nine seasons, winning four state titles in a row (2014-17) while adding two state runner-up finishes. A four-time GISA Coach of the Year honoree, Norton owns a 25-5 record in the state playoffs. Norton, who played soccer at South Carolina and served as head coach at Georgia Southern, is the director of soccer operations at the Augusta Arsenal.

Smith (c/o 1979) was a three-sport standout in the 1970s, lettering in basketball, soccer and track. He helped lead the soccer team to a state championship in 1977 and was named the school’s Male Athlete of the Year in 1979. Smith also held numerous track records that stood for more than two decades.

The 2010 varsity girls cross country team won six competitions. At the region meet, five runners placed in the top 10. Augusta Prep won the state meet, with five runners placing in the top 18.

"By reading some of the stats of these individuals, you can appreciate the great careers that they accomplished at Augusta Prep and some of them at the next level in college,” Augusta Prep athletic director Tom Holodak said. “Collectively, they have earned nine state titles, four state runner-up finishes and 13 region titles. Tom Norton is one of most respected soccer coaches in the state, and the 2010 girls cross country team dominated the scene led by Amanda Murphy."
