The Augusta Prep girls dominated en routeto their second consecutive GISA Class AAA state championship Saturday.

The girls finished with 33 points, placing well ahead of Deerfield-Windsor (76). Amy Riordan was the top girls finisher for Augusta Prep, placing fourth overall in the individual competition, followed by Molly Joseph (sixth), Beatty Joseph (seventh), Zenia Nava (12th) and Mackenzie Loo (18th). Salley Wilson finished 19th overall, her score not counting toward the team competition.

"The Varsity Girls Cross Country team rose to the occasion at the State Meet peaking mentally & physically and successfully defending their state title," Cavaliers coach Tom Holodak said. "They averaged 20:51 and we had six season bests when it counted the most. Great, tough and competitive group of young ladies!!!"

The Augusta Prep boys finished runner-up to Deerfield-Windsor, falling by one point (38-39). Jack Collier was the top Prep finisher, coming in second. Trey Farmer finished fifth, while Ben Monnig checked in at eighth, Alex Schmacht (11th) and Colin Schmacht (13th). Collin Bertram finished 14th, his score not counting toward the team finish, while Kyler Grotz finished 21st.

"I'm extremely proud of the boys' team performance at the State Meet," Holodak said. "They came within an eyelash of another state title but more importantly demonstrated great character. This was a special group of young men that worked hard daily in practice and were there for each other during the good and tough times."
