Faculty Profile: Ryan Bacheller

Job title:  Lower School PE teacher, Varsity girls head basketball coach, Varsity boys assistant basketball coach, JV boys head basketball coach, and sports marketing and graphic design specialist.

Years teaching at Prep:  7

Family:  Ryan's father, Harry, was the first football coach at Augusta Prep and also served as athletic director. Ryan has two siblings and two dogs: Jessie (Australian Shepherd) and Chipper (Golder Retriever).
Background: Ryan grew up in Atlanta, Ga, attending St. Pius X, where he played basketball. He then matriculated at the UNC Wilmington, University of North Georgia, Augusta Tech, and Augusta University.

How he found Prep: When his father came to Prep in 2010, Ryan went off for college. From time to time, he dropped by Augusta Prep, mostly for sporting events. Ryan became close to a previous PE teacher who recommended Ryan for his position when he departed.

"I enjoy sports and couldn’t see myself in an office all day, so when a PE teaching opportunity opened up at Prep it was appealing," Ryan said. "I had a couple of days to decide if I wanted to apply to Prep or take a graphic design job, and I'm happy I came to Prep."

What he enjoys about Prep: "I enjoy seeing the kids happy," he said.

Hobbies: Golf, painting, traveling

Something people might not know about Ryan: He bought a 20-year-old van, gutted it, and converted it into a camper van.

"I travel in it as much as I can," he said. "I road-tripped to Winnipeg, Canada, and back this summer over the course of almost a month, sleeping in mostly parking lots."
